1903
Residential house built by the sawmill in Vik
It all began in 1903 as a residential house for the manager of the sawmill in Vik. When the sawmill closed in 1922, the house stood empty for almost a decade.
1931
Viks Pensionat opened by Maria Magnusson
Maria Magnusson bought the residential house and opened Viks Pensionat in 1931. There were seven rooms for overnight stays, and guests arrived by train from Gothenburg to relax in the Småland countryside. Other travelers along Nissastigen also stayed overnight. The guesthouse was also a place for local celebrations, weddings, and funerals.
Maria ran the guesthouse until 1958, when she sold it to the artist couple Svedlund. After three years, the business closed, and the house stood empty.
